Learn about joining Calusa, the fall season, and what to expect.
Common questions.
Does my child need lacrosse experience to join?
No experience is necessary! Calusa welcomes players of all skill levels, and we work to place each athlete on a team that supports their current ability and continued development. Growing the game starts with opening the door to new players.
When and where does Calusa practice?
Fall 2026 practices are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30–7:30 PM at the Shade Avenue fields, 1083 S Shade Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34237. Players should be dressed and on the field by 5:25 PM so we can begin on time.
What is the practice and tournament attendance expectation?
Practices and tournaments are where players develop their skills, build friendships, and strengthen team chemistry. We expect athletes to attend every scheduled practice and tournament. If your player will miss either, please notify Coach Nations as soon as possible so our staff can plan accordingly.
What does registration cost, and what is included?
The Fall 2026 season fee is $579. This includes a jersey, tournament entry fees, 20 practices, field rentals, lights, coaching, and the training equipment used to support player development. Families are responsible for personal playing equipment and travel expenses, including transportation, hotels, meals, and other costs associated with attending tournaments.
What equipment does my child need?
Players need a helmet, gloves, a NOCSAE-approved lacrosse chest protector, elbow pads, a stick, a mouth guard, and cleats. Please also bring plenty of water to every practice. If your family needs loaner gear, contact Coach Nations to discuss availability.
What tournaments does Calusa attend?
For Fall 2026, Calusa will attend Monster Mash on October 24–25 in Wellington, Florida, and Orlando Open on December 5–6 in Orlando, Florida. Tournament schedules and travel details will be shared with registered families.
What makes Calusa’s approach to player development different?
At Calusa, we believe culture starts with the coaching staff. We meet each athlete where they are and help them work toward where they want to be through clear instruction, encouragement, and accountability. We encourage players to ask questions, make decisions, and learn from mistakes. Our goal is to build confident athletes who compete with effort, support their teammates, and take pride in their progress. We want players to leave Calusa with stronger skills, lasting relationships, and a love for the game.
Does Calusa help players interested in college lacrosse?
Yes. Our coaching staff helps athletes and families navigate the next step in their lacrosse journey. Several of our coaches have personally gone through the college recruiting process and understand the preparation, conversations, and questions involved. For players who want to pursue college lacrosse, we help set up recruiting profiles and provide guidance throughout the process. We aim to help each athlete find a program that fits their academic goals, athletic ability, and personal priorities.
How does Calusa communicate with families and handle weather cancellations?
Calusa is transitioning to TeamSnap for club communication, including schedules, reminders, and weather updates. For weather-related delays or cancellations identified in advance, we aim to notify families through TeamSnap or email at least one hour before practice. Conditions can change quickly, so additional updates may be necessary closer to practice or while players are on the field.
How can parents or local businesses support Calusa?
Community support helps Calusa create more opportunities for local lacrosse players to develop their skills, compete, and build connections beyond the field. If your business or family would like to support the club, contact Coach Nations at aaron@calusalacrosse.com and tell us about your business or the kind of support you have in mind. We will follow up to discuss how you can get involved.
